CHANGES.txt for Defendguin by Bill Kendrick bill@newbreedsoftware.com http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/defendguin/ Version 0.0.13 June 28, 2023 CHANGES SINCE 0.0.12 -------------------- Interface: * Basic, #define-based option to set 800x480 screen width. (Now the default) * Player 2's lives / ships in the status bar are red, to match their ship's color in the game. Gameplay: * Happy (penguin saved) or sad (splat) sound when displaying end-of-level bonus. * Boss warps in when it first appears; always in front of your ship. You cannot shoot it while it warps in. * WIP - Started adding Aurora Australis to the sky background. (Cribbed "pixels.c"/".h" from my own Tux Paint; GPL v2) Controls: * Now accepting joystick hat input (e.g. used by d-pads on game controllers) * Options screen senses joystick input (axes, buttons, hats) and displays them for your reference. (Joystick button no longer dismisses this screen, obviously.) * Now possible to disable horizontal input via joystick axis (set to "CONFIG_JOY_X" to -1) and hat (set "CONFIG_HAT_NO_X" to 1) and set firebuttons for thrust and reverse controls ("CONFIG_JOY_THRUST" & "CONFIG_JOY_REVERSE", respectively). Config/Score file: * Modularized how config/score filename is constructed * Added support for Haiku settings directory. Abdur-Raheem Idowu * Reported warnings/errors when having trouble finding or opening config/score file. Documentation: * Mention planetary destruction event. * Some other minor documentation updates. Bugfixes: * Added some missing #ifdef's to allow building with no sound. Marianne Waage * If "--nosound" option was given, it would still call some SDL_mixer functions, and crash. Fixed. * On some systems (e.g., mine) [Enter] was arriving as SDLK_KP_ENTER, rather than SDLK_RETURN, so testing for that as well. * Pause sound effect (replaced; see below) was never actually used. * In a two player game, if one player beat the end boss, the game would end. Now, it switches back to the other player (and they continue until either running out of lives, or beating the boss). * Value of last line of config file would get truncated (e.g., high score would lose a digit). Fixed. * Changing setting value from 10+ to <10 resulted in an extranous "0" on the screen (e.g., "90" instead of "9"). Fixed. * Boss would disappear before it was completely off the left edge of the screen. Fixed. * Guarantee boss's "success" sounds play whenever the player dies, no matter how they die (bullet, mine, crash into boss). * Penguins carried by the ship would pop off mid-air when crossing the seam of the scrolling world. Fixed. * Penguins falling or being carried by the ship at the end of the penultimate level would be stuck in mid-air during the final (boss) level. Fixed. * Increased audio rate from 22KHz to 44KHz, with a larger buffer. Replaced some sound effects: * Pause (pause.wav) (CC-BY-3.0 Marcelo Fernandez; https://opengameart.org/content/dreaming [MF]) * Ship thrust (ship/thrust.wav) (CC-BY 3.0 Iwan 'qubodup' Gabovitch; https://opengameart.org/content/fire-loop [QU]) * Ship's laser sound (ship/laser.wav) (Public domain;
